hANI
Making the characters took a lot of hard work for me. Each character background was completely created, even if it all wasn't shared. I am aware that people were confused with Hani, the angel/devil-worshiper. Sounds very contradicting, right? But the characters personal background was left unaware. She is one of the two characters I will discuss today.
Let's talk about Hana first.
Hana is the main character, and does have the most explained about her since the beginning of the story. Let's talk about before she was born. Her birth mother was a retched demon and was very high in the 'demon-hierarchy'. She fed off of human hearts, and if she was really annoyed, she'd eat demon's hearts too.
One day, she took a trip down to earth in search for a human she could feed off of. Demon's can't detect angels, as well the same idea for angels. Her mother ate the heart of an angel on a mission down on earth and then she got pregnant. Yes, she did have a husband or whatever a demon would call it. Once she gave birth to Hana, she showed some weird signs, and only a very few small amount showed that they were of a demons. At first, she blamed her husband and ate his heart. She still considered afterwards to eat her daughters heart too, but (this is something that I never introduced before) Suga's MOM convinced her to let her go, and just live on earth with whatever peace she had left.
Hana was left on earth at that point, and raised herself in the cave she was left in until she looked old enough to venture around. She knew all the things that happened in the past, at least most. Born demons are able to remember everything that happens around them since birth, although their memory does lack some bit compared to a born angel's. She went to school by conjuring up certain papers and things and learned all her magic by herself. She was around 370 when she was accepted into Jeongshin, possibly higher.
Hani, was the antagonist in this story. She sprawls out a big back story. I've been thinking about making a quick one-shot short story to describe what her childhood was like before, too.
Before Jeongshin, she wasn't a born angel. She was a human on earth. She had abusive parents, and a little brother who wasn't really blood, and just lived in the same apartment building with his uncle. She was a somewhat real angel back on earth. That little boy had a huge toll on her heart, he was the light of her basically.
Although, during a harsh night of beatings the little boy came in and attempted to actually set fire to her parents, although that turned out for the worst and the entire building burnt down. She was sent to Jeongshin--not exactly heaven since she need to learn a new lifestyle and forget her old life. She was raised once again to forget her past life, although that boy still lingered her mind. Where was he? Why did he burn me to death? He was always so happy. Wasn't I always so happy... at least with him? She hadn't found him anywhere in Jeongshin, since he newly died too, since he also burned to death in the building, although he was never found. Hani came to one conclusion; he was in hell.
She spent her years educating herself not about heaven and angels, but about the realm of demons and hell. She wanted to go there, to see him again, to communicate, to not be trapped, and most of all (what she felt was a huge missing piece) a family.
All that research led her to Hana, and her mother. Later she tries black magic, the complete opposite of what was taught in Jeongshin. Her mother had sensed the only contact not coming from the demon nor human world and overlooked it right away. There, she told Hani if she captured her daughter and feast on her heart along side with her, she'd be apart of her family. Of course, there was no mention of the little boy, but she slowly began to lose sight of what she was really looking for.
Later when she dies, I was planning on doing a one-shot of where she went afterwards. Stay tuned for that one!
